I was told this by multiple businessmen and women.

After thinking about it though, I have always known this. My brother William, has helped me from the very beginning. Before I ever knew that I was going to be doing business. He has shown me through his actions, that it is good to help others. There is never a time when somebody needs his help and he isn’t there for them. In turn when he needs something, people are quick to help him.

This is a tough concept to wrap your head around, given that when in business, you are always competing. It almost goes against business instincts to help someone out. You have the mentality that “I myself am trying to make it, why would I help you.”

None the less, that is the key to success. I have literally seen it play out. From individuals to full fledge 30 year old businesses. The key to success, is not simply by helping yourself, but by helping others reach it as well.

A couple weeks ago, a businessman came to school to give a presentation. Among many of the things he spoke about, one in particular that stands out is, always being organized. This man every day in the morning sits down an writes everything that needs to get done during the day, and perhaps the things he couldn’t complete the previous day. He had journals leading back to 30 years ago.

With this I took it upon myself to follow his lead, I write everything I have to do in the day. Also, during the coarse of the day I come up with ideas, my mind is always racing with new ideas, bad and good. So I made a section for those ideas too. So far it has been working very well for me, and I recommend this to anyone.

Among the things spoken, we talked about, blindness. Not physically blind, but blind to what may be out there in the world. My friend said “I feel sorry for people in Poinciana and Kissimmee (Florida). People move there, and that’s it. They may live the rest of their lives there, never knowing what the world may have to offer.” This is true. Sometimes we get so caught up in work and family, that we don’t take the time out to see and learn about other things.

I myself was blind to the fact that Orlando has an art scene. Last year I wrote a post about Floridas Art Scene, where I said that Florida has no art scene. I was so wrong, in the past few months I have been introduced to a whole world and culture that I never even knew about. Mind you this is just in Florida, imagine all the things I may be blind to in the whole world.

So with that I say, there’s nothing wrong with being practical, there’s nothing wrong with working and taking care of your family, but just know that there is much more to life then just that. There are many things out there that you could be blind to. I know I can’t live knowing that. I want to see and learn new things, and probably will keep doing so until I cant no more. Until old age hits me, and I won’t be able to remember much, but I’ll have random flashbacks of places I seen, things I have learned, and people I have met.

I don’t know what it is, if its deep down in the chemical make-up of the drink, or brought upon by the essence that it releases why into the air, or it could be the ambiance that the particular shop provides. Whatever the reason may be “Good things happen over Coffee”.

We have a lot of things to be thankful for. Right around the corner, or maybe even in the table next to you at Steak & Shake, there is someone who may not be blessed with the things that we have.

I give thanks for what the Lord has given me at the end of every day, not just today. For the Lord gives everyday, and not just today. We shall all be able to reflect, and realize that we truly are blessed. If we carefully analyze every day we will be able to find a reason for which to give thanks for.

CSI is a very entertaining program, but it’s made for just that, to entertain. This show has people thinking they can really be forensic scientists simply because they see it on TV. They truly think they can be a forensic scientist, and when you ask them why, they ignorantly reply “Oh, because I can watch CSI all day long.” As if crime is solved by watching TV in a tank top and pajama bottoms with little hearts on them, and indulging yourself with bowl after bowl of breakfast cereal. I mean they purposely make the show so that the viewer may be able to figure out what’s going to happen before the detectives do. They intentionally point the camera towards a smoking gun and/or bloody knife. Not to mention the detectives always figure out the case in a convenient 1 hour show, with commercials in between so you may use the bathroom and refill your bowl with cereal. It’s truly unrealistic to believe you can go into forensic science simply because you watch CSI.

In conclusion, TV in our culture gives people a false sense that they may partake in activities, and do them well, simply because they seen them done on TV. In all actuality it is quite difficult to do a lot of the activities shown. It may seem simple because they squeeze a long process into an entertaining hour long show, but it’s far from reality. As interesting as CSI may be you may want to do a little research before going into that field.

I spent my fourth of July with the family. It is always great to do so. We get so caught up in our everyday lives that we forget about one another. It’s almost as if your living with strangers. The family should always be a priority. In the hispanic culture, families are very united. Sometimes we lose that when we come to the United States. We adopt the sort of “Every one for themselves” mentality.

Here it is common for you to move out once you hit 18, and when you leave the house you leave the family. Coming back to visit maybe once a year, if that. In the hispanic culture, well atleast in Puerto Rico, it is completly normal to be living with you’re parents until about 24 25.

I myself am not planing to stay in my parents house when I turn 18. But hopfully, I may keep the closness.
